Trump, Talking Tariffs, Immigration, Revs up Small-Town Base in Wisconsin

Donald Trump pledged in Wisconsin on Saturday to implement unprecedented tariffs and tighten immigration controls, aiming to reinforce his support among working-class and rural white voters, a crucial segment of his base.

Kabul 24: Speaking at a regional airport in Mosinee, Trump warned that even allies like the European Union would face new trade barriers if he wins the November 5 election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. He emphasized that Wisconsin would benefit significantly from his proposed trade policies, stating, “We’re not going to watch our wealth and our jobs get ripped away from us and sent to foreign countries” .

Immigration and Crime Concerns

Trump portrayed immigrants as a serious threat to local communities, claiming without evidence that those in the country illegally could displace residents. He asserted, “Crime is through the roof, and you haven’t seen the migrant crime yet,” suggesting that it is escalating and dangerous .

Political Landscape and Voter Dynamics

Despite Trump’s efforts, recent polls indicate a decline in his support among various demographic groups, particularly with Hispanic and Black voters, where Harris leads. However, he maintains a strong lead among white voters without a college degree, crucial for his campaign strategy in Rust Belt states like Wisconsin, where he previously won by promising to revive industrial jobs .

Upcoming Debate and Campaign Strategy

As the debate with Harris approaches, Trump’s rally served as one of his last public appearances before the event. His campaign is focusing on policy attacks rather than personal criticisms, although he did mock Harris during the rally. Trump also reiterated plans to purge the federal government of what he described as corrupt officials and proposed changes to the 25th Amendment regarding presidential incapacity .
