The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that $93 million is needed to support 114,000 people affected by the earthquake in Herat.
Kabul 24: According to the OCHA report published yesterday (Monday, 24 Mizan), 15 million dollars have been provided to help the victims of the earthquake in Herat.
The report states that the country’s humanitarian team has developed an earthquake response plan in Herat to support the 114,000 people directly affected.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has also said that thousands of people in western Afghanistan have been affected by a series of earthquakes in the past week and need immediate assistance.
The office said its teams and colleagues are working but more help is needed.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has added that it is asking for $14.4 million in aid as winter approaches.
In the last 10 days, Herat Province has witnessed several earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale and numerous aftershocks.
These earthquakes caused widespread destruction and killed more than 2,445 people and injured 2,440 people.
