UN Calls for Probe into Escalating Violence Against Afghanistan’s Hazara Shia Community

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported a surge in violence against the Shia Hazara community in Kabul, Baghlan, and Herat over the past month.

Kabul 24: On Monday, UNAMA urged for thorough investigations into the recent spate of violence, holding perpetrators accountable, and ensuring protection for those in danger.

Additionally, UNAMA extended its sympathy to the victims through a message on the social platform X.

On Monday, December 4, UNAMA conveyed in a Facebook post that these acts of violence occurred in the provinces of Kabul, Baghlan, and recently in Herat.

The message states: “In the past month, Afghanistan has witnessed an increase in violence against the Hazara Shia community in Kabul, Baghlan, and recently in Herat.”

The organization adds that it expresses solidarity with the victims and calls for investigations, accountability for the perpetrators, and increased support for individuals at risk.

It is noteworthy that unidentified gunmen, around 3:00 PM last Friday, targeted occupants of a “rickshaw” in the “Korra-e Milli” square of Jabraiel City, located in the 13th district of Herat city.
