United Nations: Seven thousand and 500 pregnant women in Herat have been affected by the earthquake

The United Nations Population Fund says that, based on this organization’s estimate, around 7,500 pregnant women have been affected by the recent earthquakes in Herat.

Kabul 24: This fund published a report today (Sunday, 30 Mizan) and said that it has sent eight mobile medical teams to Herat to support pregnant women and other victims of the earthquake disaster.

The United Nations Population Fund report states that the need for assistance in the field is still high.

According to this report, in some areas of Herat, all the houses have been razed to the ground due to these tremors and many displaced people have temporarily taken shelter in tents and abandoned buildings.

Jamie Nadal, UNFPA representative for Afghanistan, said that many women have lost everything.

He added that UNFPA is trying to ensure that pregnant women receive appropriate reproductive health care services.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale shook Zindajan district and several other districts of Herat on Saturday. During these two weeks, several other earthquakes and aftershocks have shaken Herat.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says assessments completed to date show that more than 21,500 homes have been completely destroyed.

According to Ocha, about 154,000 people have been affected by the recent earthquake.

Statistics show that after the earthquake in Herat, more than 2,445 people died and 2,440 people were injured.
