Hanafi in China: Afghanistan Seeks to Strengthen Regional Economic Cooperation

Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Administrative Head of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, speaking at the ninth China-South Asia International Exhibition in China, emphasized the need to enhance economic ties with regional countries, particularly China.

kabul 24: Highlighting the Islamic Emirate’s policy of non-interference in the affairs of other nations, Hanafi stated that Afghanistan’s soil would never be used against any country’s interests. He urged other nations to reciprocate by refraining from interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, advocating for mutual respect.

Hamidullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, reinforced this stance, saying, “Afghanistan will not allow any individual or group to use its territory to threaten others. We do not interfere in any country’s internal matters and expect the same from others.” These statements reflect the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to fostering regional stability and building trust-based relationships.

At the exhibition, which serves as a platform for strengthening economic cooperation between South Asian countries and China, Hanafi highlighted Afghanistan’s potential to become a vital connectivity hub linking Central, South, and East Asia. He called for expanded collaboration with China and South Asian nations in key sectors such as mining, energy, transit, technology, and trade. Hanafi also outlined the Islamic Emirate’s recent achievements, including nationwide security, general amnesty, efforts to combat drug production and trafficking, and the launch of development projects, which he said have created a conducive environment for foreign investment and economic growth.

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic analyst, commented, “China represents a significant market for Afghanistan. We must actively invite Chinese investment in critical sectors like infrastructure, electricity, and mining. Without robust infrastructure and reliable energy, achieving economic self-sufficiency will remain challenging. Formal agreements with China to transfer advanced machinery and technology could be a game-changer for our economy.”

Qutbuddin Yaqoobi, another economic expert, emphasized Afghanistan’s strategic position, stating, “Given its geopolitical location, Afghanistan can play a pivotal role in regional trade and transit. Partnering with China, a global leader in industry and economy, offers immense opportunities. Events like the China-South Asia Exhibition enable Afghanistan to attract investment and maximize economic benefits.”

Hanafi further elaborated on ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives under the Islamic Emirate, describing them as critical steps toward national reconstruction and improving livelihoods. He noted that the current stable security environment, a result of the Islamic Emirate’s efforts, provides a strong foundation for attracting foreign investment and driving economic progress.

The exhibition, attended by representatives from various countries, offered Afghanistan a platform to showcase its economic potential and engage with international investors. Hanafi invited Chinese and regional investors to participate in Afghanistan’s infrastructure projects, particularly in mining and transit, emphasizing the need for technology transfer to support the country’s journey toward self-reliance and sustainable development.

Hanafi’s participation in this high-profile event and his remarks signal the Islamic Emirate’s determination to open a new chapter in economic relations with regional powers, especially China. If realized, these efforts could significantly enhance Afghanistan’s economic standing and contribute to improving the quality of life for its people.
