India Strongly Condemns Pakistan’s Air Strikes on Afghanistan in UN Security Council

India has strongly criticized Pakistan for its recent airstrikes on Afghan territory, accusing Islamabad of violating international law and Afghanistan’s sovereignty through attacks that have killed and injured numerous civilians.

kabul 24: Harish Paruvataneni, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made the sharp remarks during an annual UN Security Council meeting on the “Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict.” Citing reports from UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan), he stated that Pakistani airstrikes in the first three months of this year alone resulted in 750 civilian casualties in Afghanistan.

Paruvataneni particularly condemned the “brutal” Pakistani airstrike on the “Omid” drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul during the holy month of Ramadan.

He highlighted that the attack occurred immediately after Tarawih prayers, when, according to UNAMA, a large number of patients and civilians were leaving the adjacent mosque.“This is the height of hypocrisy,” the Indian envoy said. “A country that speaks of lofty principles of international law bombs innocent civilians under the cover of darkness.”

He added that Pakistan has consistently ignored international calls to protect civilians.

The Indian representative further stated that such “shameful aggressive acts” by Pakistan should not surprise the international community, as the country “bombs its own people and carries out systematic genocide.”India’s strong statement in the Security Council underscores deep-seated tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.

It also reflects India’s efforts to highlight Pakistan’s cross-border military actions and their heavy toll on Afghan civilians. UNAMA has repeatedly warned about the rising number of civilian casualties resulting from Pakistani cross-border strikes.

The remarks come amid growing international emphasis on the need for all states to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilian lives in conflict zones. India’s intervention is expected to fuel further diplomatic discussions regarding state accountability for extraterritorial military operations and the protection of civilians.

By bringing these issues to the United Nations, India aims to increase diplomatic pressure on Pakistan and draw global attention to the destabilizing impact of such attacks on regional peace and security.
