Afghanistan’s ITF Taekwon-Do Federation Eyes South Asia Championships in Kabul

Officials from the ITF Taekwon-Do Federation of Afghanistan have announced extensive programs for this solar year, covering both domestic and international levels.

Kabul 24: According to statements made to TOLOnews, the federation’s first major step is to organize the National ITF Taekwon-Do Championships in Kabul.

Athletes from various provinces will compete, allowing coaches and officials to identify the best talents and select the national team.Following the national event, Afghanistan’s selected athletes will prepare for important Asian and World Championships.

These competitions are scheduled to be hosted by Mongolia and Kazakhstan.Meanwhile, the federation has submitted a proposal to host the South Asia ITF Taekwon-Do Championships.

If approved by the World ITF Federation, the event will be held in Kabul for the first time. This would mark a significant milestone for Afghan sports and could attract greater international attention to the country.

This development comes shortly after local competitions were held in several provinces, especially Herat.

Those events drew strong criticism from senior federation officials, who described them as unauthorized and organized without coordination with the central body.

Federation leaders stressed that such competitions lack official recognition and have declared that parallel structures operating in parts of the country, particularly Herat, are not legitimate.

They have urged all athletes to refrain from participating in unofficial events and only join programs approved by the central federation. Officials have also called on relevant bodies not to recognize unofficial ITF Taekwon-Do structures in Herat.

As of now, officials from the Herat Taekwon-Do Federation have not issued any response to these statements. The central ITF Taekwon-Do Federation of Afghanistan aims to establish unity, discipline, and official structure across the country.

By organizing national championships in Kabul and actively pursuing the hosting of regional events, the federation seeks to develop the sport professionally, raise the technical level of athletes, and strengthen Afghanistan’s position in international Taekwon-Do circles.

These initiatives are expected to play a key role in the growth and standardization of ITF Taekwon-Do in Afghanistan.
