Kuwait’s Army announced early Wednesday morning in an official statement that its air defense systems successfully countered hostile missile and drone attacks.
Kabul 24: The statement came as Iranian media, including Mehr News Agency, reported multiple explosions heard on Qeshm Island, with the cause remaining unclear at the time.
Hours later, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released a detailed statement confirming that Iran had launched several ballistic missiles toward targets in neighboring Arab countries in the Persian Gulf region.
However, none of the missiles reached their intended targets.According to CENTCOM, two Iranian missiles fired toward Kuwait either crashed or disintegrated mid-flight before reaching their objective.
Three additional missiles heading toward Bahrain were immediately intercepted and destroyed by U.S. and Bahraini air defense forces.
CENTCOM also revealed that shortly before the missile launches, American forces downed three Iranian suicide drones targeting civilian mariners lawfully transiting regional waters. The command described these actions as part of efforts to protect freedom of navigation and non-combatant vessels.
In a defensive response, U.S. forces conducted strikes on a military ground control station in Iran’s Qeshm Island. CENTCOM characterized the operation as a clear act of self-defense.
Kuwait’s military had earlier stated: “Kuwaiti air defenses are currently engaging hostile missile and drone attacks. The General Staff of the Army confirms that any explosions heard are the result of successful interceptions by air defense systems.”The incidents have sharply escalated tensions across the Persian Gulf.
They highlight the high readiness of Arab Gulf states’ air defense networks and the direct support provided by the United States. No official reports of casualties or damage have been issued in Kuwait or Bahrain so far.
Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official response to CENTCOM’s claims.Military analysts note that these failed attacks represent a significant blow to Iran’s missile deterrence credibility.
At the same time, the swift and coordinated response by the U.S. and its regional partners sends a strong message of collective defensive preparedness in the face of Iranian aggression.
