Hengaw Reports Execution of 29-Year-Old Disabled Afghan Citizen in Rafsanjan Prison

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reports that a 29-year-old Afghan national, Wali Jan Noorzai, has been executed at the central prison in Rafsanjan, located in Iran’s Kerman Province. According to published reports, the prisoner, who was sentenced to death on charges of intentional murder, was executed on Wednesday.

Kabul 24: Based on details provided by Hengaw, Noorzai was arrested three years ago by Iranian police in Rafsanjan following allegations of involvement in a murder case. During the arrest operation, he was shot and severely injured by police gunfire. The injuries sustained during the shooting resulted in a permanent loss of mobility, rendering him physically disabled.

Human rights organizations report that throughout his three years of detention and imprisonment in Rafsanjan, Noorzai was wheelchair-bound due to his paralysis. The judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran subsequently issued a death sentence following legal proceedings, which was ultimately carried out while the prisoner remained in a wheelchair.

The report highlighting the arrest circumstances and execution of a mobility-impaired Afghan national has renewed attention among civil organizations and human rights observers regarding legal procedures, detention conditions, and the treatment of foreign nationals and refugees within Iran’s judicial and penal systems.
