Historic Visit of Amir Khan Muttaqi to India: A Step Toward Strengthening Kabul-Delhi Ties

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has embarked on an official visit to New Delhi at the invitation of the Indian government.

Kabul 24: Zia Ahmad Takal, Head of Public Relations at the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that the visit aims to facilitate discussions with senior Indian officials, including India’s Foreign Minister, on enhancing bilateral relations, humanitarian aid, and infrastructure projects.

The trip follows Muttaqi’s participation in the Moscow summit and is in response to an official invitation from India.According to reports, Muttaqi’s five-day visit will focus on critical issues such as the recognition of the Islamic Emirate, elevating diplomatic ties to the level of embassies, and expanding consular services.

Indian media, citing sources in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, suggest that these discussions could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Kabul-Delhi relations, particularly in economic and diplomatic spheres.

Over the past two decades, India has played a significant role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, implementing major infrastructure projects such as roads, dams, and educational facilities.

However, following the Islamic Emirate’s return to power in 2021, formal diplomatic relations between the two nations declined, though technical interactions and India’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan have continued.

This visit could serve as a turning point in revitalizing bilateral ties. Key topics expected to be discussed include strengthening economic cooperation, increasing humanitarian aid, and advancing infrastructure projects.

Additionally, upgrading diplomatic representation and facilitating consular services could enhance interactions between the two countries.Muttaqi’s trip comes at a time when Afghanistan seeks to broaden its international relations.

The visit offers an opportunity for both Kabul and New Delhi to reinforce India’s position as a key regional partner for Afghanistan.

Successful negotiations could pave the way for deeper economic and diplomatic engagement, further strengthening the historic and cultural bonds between the two nations
