The US State Department has announced that emergency conditions for its allies in the Middle East have led to the waiver of congressional review requirements for major arms transactions.
Kabul 24: The decision covers key partners including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Israel.On Friday evening, May 1, the State Department formally approved the sale of Patriot missile defense systems to Qatar in a deal valued at over $4 billion.
Qatar was among the countries directly targeted by Iranian attacks following the escalation of hostilities that began in late February.
The advanced Patriot systems are intended to significantly bolster Qatar’s air and missile defense capabilities against ongoing regional threats.In addition to Qatar, the United States has also greenlit arms sales to Israel and other strategic allies in the region, including the UAE and Kuwait.
According to the State Department, the total value of these combined defense contracts reaches $8.6 billion (approximately €7.32 billion). All approvals were issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.US officials stated that these transactions fully align with America’s foreign policy objectives and national security interests.
