On Thursday, 19 Saratan 1404 (July 10, 2025), Abdul Salam Hanafi, Afghanistan’s Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, addressed the situation of Afghan migrants returning from Iran during a press conference in Kabul.
Kabul 24: Hanafi criticized the mistreatment of Afghan migrants in Iranian camps and the violation of their rights during their return journey.
He noted that approximately 40,000 people are entering Afghanistan daily through the Islam Qala and Pul-e Abrisham borders.Hanafi emphasized that despite the high volume of returnees, the situation is under control, with extensive support provided.
Local communities have shown remarkable solidarity, welcoming returnees warmly.Volunteers and ordinary citizens at Islam Qala and Pul-e Abrisham provide food, water, and basic necessities to returnees.
According to Abdullah, a driver at the border, he and other locals have transported around 5,000 people to cities like Herat and Kabul using personal vehicles over the past three weeks. These free transportation services, supported by local philanthropists and businesses, have eased the burden of travel for migrant families.
Many returnees view this warm reception as a sign of national unity. Hanafi highlighted government measures, including a 2,000 Afghani cash assistance for each returnee and the allocation of 100 square meters of land for those without shelter to start anew.Free transportation to various cities is also part of the support system.
Philanthropists, both within Afghanistan and abroad, have contributed by sending financial aid and essential supplies. These collective efforts, despite infrastructural challenges, reflect the determination of the people and government to rebuild the lives of returnees, instilling hope among them.
