The White House published the full text of the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States on Wednesday, ahead of the planned signing ceremony in Switzerland.
kabul 24: In a historic development, the document to end the conflict was digitally signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
This agreement could mark one of the most significant turning points in Iran-U.S. relations in recent decades.According to U.S. officials cited by Axios, the final version of the memorandum was signed electronically on Wednesday night at the Palace of Versailles in France, during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron following the G7 summit.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that President Pezeshkian had digitally signed the document, eliminating the need for a physical signing ceremony in Switzerland.
Nevertheless, Baghaei stated that the nuclear negotiations between Iranian and American delegations, scheduled to begin on Friday in Switzerland, will proceed as planned.
Earlier, Iranian officials had announced that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf would attend the signing ceremony, while U.S. Vice President JD Vance was also expected to participate on the American side.
On Wednesday, during the G7 summit in France, Donald Trump said he expected the agreement with Iran to be signed “very soon, perhaps tomorrow or the day after.” When asked why he would not travel to Switzerland for the signing, he did not rule out the possibility of staying to finalize the deal.
In his remarks on Wednesday night, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed that the understanding is based on the principle of “action for action.” He warned that if the United States fails to fulfill its commitments, the Islamic Republic will not implement its obligations either.
The memorandum, which has been described as a major step toward regional stability, includes provisions for a permanent ceasefire, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, and prospects for economic reconstruction assistance.
President Pezeshkian described the agreement as an opportunity to resolve Iran’s economic challenges and to create “a different world” in the region.
Trump called it a historic deal that could evolve into a permanent comprehensive agreement, while cautioning that all options remain on the table if Iran does not comply. The memorandum was reached after months of tension and indirect talks, with Pakistan playing a key mediating role.
Implementation of some immediate provisions, including the reopening of key commercial routes, has already begun. This digital signing represents a modern diplomatic breakthrough, bypassing traditional formalities while keeping substantive nuclear discussions on track. Both sides view the document as a foundation for broader de-escalation in the Middle East.
