Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, stated that the issue of reopening schools for girls above the sixth grade remains under review, and the government is working to resolve the matter.
Kabul 24: Speaking today at the “Government in the Mirror of the Media” program, Mujahid noted that currently, one out of every four Afghan citizens is enrolled in education. He added that efforts are underway to address and reintegrate the interrupted segments of the educational process back into the system.
The spokesman highlighted that expanding education, developing higher education, strengthening scientific research, and building human resource capacity were the primary focus areas for the country’s educational and scientific institutions in the lunar year 1447.
Outlining the achievements of the past year, he stated that 238 new schools and religious seminaries were constructed, while 970 others were repaired and renovated. According to Mujahid, there are currently over 38,000 public and private schools operating across Afghanistan, accommodating more than 7.62 million students.
Mujahid also provided figures for other educational sectors, stating that over 2.4 million students are engaged in Islamic studies at religious seminaries, while more than 212,000 students are enrolled in public and private universities.
Additionally, after recruiting 2,580 new students over the past year, the total enrollment in educational centers under the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs has reached 7,643.
Regarding administrative and vocational training, Mujahid noted that the General Examination Directorate conducted 53 rounds of the Kankor university entrance exam, accommodating 189,169 candidates. Furthermore, enrollment in technical and vocational high schools and institutes stands at over 77,855 students.
Concluding his report, the spokesman highlighted the output of the Academy of Sciences, reporting the completion of 14 research projects, the publication of 164 scientific papers, and the organization of 106 scientific conferences and seminars over the past year.
