A specialized team of medical experts from the Islamic Center of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), has initiated a program in Kabul to perform free surgeries for 120 children suffering from cleft lip and palate conditions.
Kabul 24: Speaking at the launch of the medical initiative, Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar, General Director of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, highlighted the high volume of patients arriving from various provinces. He urged health officials to take necessary measures to ensure all patients particularly those traveling from remote and underserved regions—receive appropriate medical care so that no family leaves without treatment.
Meanwhile, members of the Bangladeshi medical team reaffirmed their commitment to delivering specialized care, aiming to restore proper appearance and speech capabilities to affected children.
Mohammad Hamza, representing the Islamic Center of Bangladesh, stated that these humanitarian programs will continue until all patients receive necessary care and family hardships are alleviated. Tasnim Gode and Rizwan, surgeons on the team, noted that this marks their fourth visit to Afghanistan, pointing to a 95% success rate from their operations across 15 countries. They added that efforts are underway to extend these specialized surgical services to remote provinces in the future.
Families of the patients expressed deep relief over the availability of free medical care, viewing the initiative as a vital opportunity for their children’s recovery. Shirin, a mother who traveled from Khost Province for her child’s surgery, expressed gratitude for the services, noting that the initiative has relieved significant financial and emotional burdens for low-income families.
Over the past two years, this volunteer surgical team from Bangladesh, working alongside local health organizations, has successfully provided free cleft lip and palate operations to more than 200 Afghan children.
