Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has called for expanded cooperation among Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Afghanistan, describing the current moment as a historic opportunity to create a shared development space in the heart of Eurasia.
Kabul 24: Speaking on Friday at an informal consultative meeting of Central Asian leaders and Azerbaijan held in Kyrgyzstan, Mirziyoyev stressed that Central Asia must now be viewed within a broader geopolitical framework.
He noted that a region once fragmented and isolated is gradually moving toward greater collaboration under a common development agenda.
The participation of Azerbaijan, he said, extends this process beyond the traditional boundaries of Central Asia and opens new avenues for regional integration.“A historic opportunity has emerged before us to create a shared development space that links Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Afghanistan,” Mirziyoyev stated. “We must seize this chance to build sustainable relations and good-neighborly ties in the heart of Eurasia.”The Uzbek leader emphasized the importance of strengthening regional connectivity, economic cooperation, and long-term relations among neighboring countries.
He highlighted the need to develop transport infrastructure, boost trade, facilitate the transit of goods and energy, and coordinate policies in areas such as security and sustainable development.
Such cooperation, he argued, could drive economic growth and improve living standards across the region.Mirziyoyev’s remarks come at a time when countries in the region have shown growing interest in deepening economic and political ties.
Azerbaijan’s presence at the meeting as a representative of the South Caucasus underscores a shared willingness to broaden the circle of collaboration.
The president urged the leaders present to translate this historic opportunity into concrete action, so that a more connected, prosperous, and stable region can take shape in the heart of Eurasia.
