The media office of the Helmand governor announced in an official statement that 10 tons and 463 kilograms of various smuggled and illegally imported pharmaceuticals were set on fire and completely destroyed during a special ceremony attended by appointed officials and local authorities.
Kabul 24: This measure was executed as part of the caretaker government’s regulatory enforcement to purge the market of unauthorized medical supplies and oversee the quality control of imported goods.
According to information provided by the Helmand governor’s office, this large shipment was the result of meticulous inspections and seizures conducted by security and regulatory forces over the past two months across the province.
Traffickers had attempted to introduce these pharmaceuticals into the market without undergoing legal clearance, meeting health standards, or paying custom duties, but all items were identified and confiscated through the vigilance of the relevant agencies.
Details released by local Helmand officials reveal that the vast majority of the destroyed inventory consisted of human medications. According to the office, the incinerated goods included 9,917 kilograms of low-quality smuggled human drugs, 334 kilograms of unauthorized veterinary medicines, and 212 kilograms of various medical plasters and auxiliary supplies.
The unregulated entry and distribution of such pharmaceuticals pose serious, irreversible risks to public and animal health due to non-compliance with standard storage and transportation conditions.
Helmand provincial authorities emphasized the continuation of enforcement operations across borders and local markets, warning that illegal importers, vendors of expired medicines, and traffickers of medical equipment will face decisive legal action.
Local officials urged all citizens and health sector workers to report any suspicious activities or sales of unauthorized drugs to security and health authorities to safeguard community health.
