Local authorities in Panjshir Province report that current inmate numbers remain exceptionally low, confirming there are no political prisoners held within the local detention system.
Kabul 24: According to statements released by the Panjshir Governor’s Press Office, the provincial facility holds a total of 59 inmates. Officials specified that all current detainees are facing charges exclusively related to criminal, moral, or civil offenses, with no cases of a political nature.
During a formal meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Mullah Abdul Salam Hanafi, Panjshir Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim outlined the local security climate. He noted a marked reduction in criminal activity across the province and reiterated that political imprisonment remains non-existent in the region.
As part of an official delegation to Panjshir, Deputy Prime Minister Hanafi conducted an on-site inspection of the provincial prison located in the Rakha district. The evaluation focused directly on inmate living conditions, food quality, health facilities, and the overall conduct of administrative staff toward detainees.
Hanafi emphasized that the primary objective of the review was to ensure the protection of detainees’ rights, guarantee timely judicial processing of active cases, and prevent the unlawful prolonged detention of individuals who have already served their sentence terms.
Concluding his visit, the Deputy Prime Minister characterized relations between the residents of Panjshir and the current government as constructive and positive, reaffirming that addressing local public needs and socio-economic conditions remains a central priority for the administration.
