Qatari Ambassador to Kabul, Mardaf Al-Qashouti, has announced his country’s active efforts to ease tensions and improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Kabul 24: During a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Ambassador Al-Qashouti stressed that strong ties between Kabul and Islamabad are essential for regional security, stability, and economic development.
He reaffirmed that Qatar has always supported dialogue-based solutions and is working to strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding in the region.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations, political cooperation, and Qatar’s role in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Qatari envoy highlighted Doha’s continued commitment to constructive mediation and peaceful conflict resolution.
Political analyst Fazl Manullah Momtaz noted: “Qatar maintains excellent relations with the United States, Pakistan, and the Islamic Emirate.
This balanced position allows it to play a pivotal and impartial mediating role in resolving tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as other Afghan-related issues.”Another political observer, Akhtar Mohammad Rasikh, described Qatar as one of the countries with close ties to the Islamic Emirate and one that has worked to create conditions for peace and understanding between Kabul and Islamabad.
Political analyst Gulab Khan Baz added that most global issues are ultimately resolved through negotiations, but said Pakistan has so far lacked sufficient commitment and sincerity in talks with Afghanistan.
In recent years, Qatar has played a prominent role in hosting political dialogues on Afghanistan. Doha has repeatedly facilitated meetings between various Afghan and regional parties to promote engagement and reduce tensions.On October 18, 2025 (26 Mizan 1404 in the Afghan calendar), Qatar hosted important consultations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Afghan delegation was led by Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Minister of Defense of the Islamic Emirate. In those talks, both sides agreed on an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of mechanisms to strengthen lasting peace and stability.
Analysts believe Qatar’s mediation could prove valuable due to its balanced relationships with all major stakeholders.
However, the success of these efforts will depend on the political will of both parties — particularly Pakistan’s practical commitment to implementing any agreements reached.
By continuing this diplomatic approach, Qatar is positioning itself as a neutral and active player in regional diplomacy, aiming to foster long-term stability in Afghanistan and its neighborhood through dialogue and mutual understanding.
