A ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s return to power was held in Kandahar Province, attended by the Supreme Leader, Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada, alongside senior government officials.
Kabul 24: Addressing the gathering, the Supreme Leader reviewed the five-year tenure of his administration and strongly criticized the international community’s refusal to grant diplomatic recognition to the current government.
Reflecting on developments following the collapse of the republic on August 15, 2021 (24 Asad 1400), Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada characterized the current governance as nationwide, decisive, and unprecedented, questioning the double standards of foreign powers toward Afghanistan.
Drawing a sharp comparison between past and present, he noted that previous administrations were internationally recognized despite lacking control over vast swaths of the country, whereas the current government remains unrecognized despite establishing full authority and maintaining total security across the nation’s entire territory.
The Supreme Leader further emphasized the strict enforcement of Islamic Sharia law and the administration of justice across the country, affirming that leadership itself remains strictly accountable to religious law.
He underscored that the administration’s commitment rests entirely on implementing Islamic tenets, stating that no action outside the boundaries of Sharia would be tolerated.
Additionally, he called on the Afghan public to preserve unity, mutual acceptance, and fraternity, reiterating that Afghanistan seeks positive relations and mutual engagement with all nations based on Islamic principles and frameworks.
August 15, 2021, marks a pivotal turning point in Afghanistan’s contemporary history, when the downfall of the republican system inaugurated a new chapter in the country’s political and social trajectory—a date now commemorated annually across various provinces.
