Trump: U.S. Withdrawal from Afghanistan Was a Shameful Display

Four years after the deadly attack at Kabul airport, the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan continues to face criticism and questions within the country.

Kabul 24: Donald Trump, the current U.S. President, sharply criticized former President Joe Biden, calling the Afghanistan withdrawal “a shameful display in the history of U.S. foreign policy.” Trump emphasized that U.S. forces should have been stationed at Bagram Airfield instead of Kabul airport.

He stated, “It should never have happened. They were in the wrong place. Bagram was where they should have been—a massive airbase with hundreds of acres around it. No one could get close to it.

But we had a group of incompetent people running our country.”Trump reiterated his intention to retain Bagram Airfield, claiming, “We would have kept Bagram, which has one of the largest runways in the world, capable of landing any aircraft. Such runways aren’t built anymore.

But we abandoned it, and now China has taken over that airbase.

The Biden administration was the most incompetent in history.”Trump has repeatedly claimed that China now controls Bagram, though no credible evidence supports this assertion. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Defense stated that investigations into the Afghanistan withdrawal are ongoing.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the review, led by Afghanistan veteran Sean Parnell, is expected to be completed by mid-2026. “We’re examining every aspect to gain a full understanding of what happened, and we’re doing this for the American people,” Austin noted.

On August 26, 2021, during the final days of the U.S. presence in Afghanistan, an explosion at the gate of Kabul’s international airport killed over 100 Afghan civilians and 13 U.S. service members.

This incident remains a focal point of criticism regarding the management of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
