Visit of Afghan and Turkmen Leaders to TAPI Project in Afghanistan

A high-level delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, together with a Turkmen delegation headed by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, National Leader of Turkmenistan, visited the progress of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project in Afghanistan on Monday, 28 Mizan 1404 (October 20, 2025).

This project is recognized as a key initiative for enhancing regional cooperation and economic development.

Kabul 24: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar described the TAPI project as a significant step toward regional unity and shared prosperity, noting that 14 kilometers of the pipeline have already been constructed in Afghanistan.

He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate’s vision extends beyond TAPI, aiming to establish a broader economic corridor with Turkmenistan, encompassing projects such as the TAP-500 power transmission line, railway construction, road development, and logistical centers.

Baradar reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s full commitment to ensuring the security and sustainability of these projects and invited Turkmenistan and other international partners to seize investment opportunities in Afghanistan.Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow described the Kabul-Ashgabat relationship as expanding and mutually beneficial, expressing gratitude for the Islamic Emirate’s comprehensive cooperation in implementing this critical regional project.

He highlighted TAPI as a top priority for Turkmenistan, contributing significantly to regional economic stability.

Berdimuhamedow noted that current conditions are ideal for the project’s execution, with TAPI enjoying widespread global support. He assured that Turkmenistan would complete the project on schedule, generating approximately one billion dollars in annual revenue for Afghanistan.

In conclusion, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar called on neighboring countries to foster relations based on mutual respect rather than confrontation and to uphold the sovereignty and dignity of nations.

This visit underscores the shared commitment of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to advancing the TAPI project and strengthening regional economic cooperation.
