Kabul 24: The recent floods in five districts of Baghlan have caused widespread devastation, including the destruction of residential homes, 19 clinics, 19 schools, 115 bridges, numerous canals, and 60 kilometers of roads. The reconstruction efforts in these areas are crucial for the affected communities.
International Support and Aid Efforts
Various countries such as Qatar, Türkiye, and Russia, along with domestic and international aid organizations, have stepped in to provide assistance to the flood victims in Baghlan.
Qatar has sent 126 tons of aid, including tents, blankets, and ambulances, while Russia and Türkiye have also contributed significantly with food supplies and aid packages.
Transitioning from Humanitarian to Developmental Aid
Discussions during the meeting emphasized the importance of transitioning aid projects from humanitarian to developmental, focusing on implementing sustainable solutions in remote and underdeveloped areas. This shift aims to address the long-term needs of the affected regions.

In a show of solidarity, residents from various provinces and Afghans living abroad, like in Türkiye, have initiated campaigns to gather aid for the flood victims in Baghlan. Mohammad Dawood, a resident of Nimroz, highlighted the importance of collective support and financial contributions to assist those in need.

Economist Mir Shakib Mir stressed the urgency for the international community to prioritize aid delivery and shelter construction for the affected families in Baghlan. With nearly 200 deaths and over 240 injuries reported, swift and coordinated efforts are essential to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims.
