US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West concluded a two-day visit to Ankara, Turkey, where he engaged in crucial discussions on the way forward in Afghanistan.
Kabul 24: West took to X to share the key issues that were addressed during his trip, highlighting the need for collective diplomacy and coordinated efforts against the Daesh-Khorasan threat.
Support for Disaster Relief and Human Rights
The envoy emphasized the importance of supporting disaster relief efforts in northern Afghanistan, which has been affected by recent natural disasters. Additionally, West stressed the need to promote and protect the human rights of Afghans, a critical aspect of the country’s development and stability.
Turkey’s Robust Support for Afghanistan
During his visit, West met with the head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to gain insight into Turkey’s extensive support for various projects in Afghanistan.
These initiatives include cultural preservation, emergency relief, health, and education projects, demonstrating Turkey’s commitment to the country’s development.
Regional Diplomacy Ahead of Doha Meeting
West’s visit to Ankara follows his meeting with Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, last week.
Al-Khulaifi’s subsequent visit to Kabul underscores the ongoing regional diplomatic efforts ahead of the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan, scheduled for June 30. These meetings are crucial in shaping the future of Afghanistan and addressing the complex challenges it faces.
