Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has described the elevation of diplomatic ties between Afghanistan and Turkey to the ambassadorial level as a significant milestone, reflecting positive and cooperative relations between the two nations.
Kabul 24: He stated, “We can almost say that the relations between Turkey and Afghanistan have now normalized and are on a steady path.”
These remarks were made during a ceremony introducing Saniullah Farhmand as the new ambassador of the Islamic Emirate to Turkey, according to a video shared by Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the head of public relations at the Afghan Foreign Ministry.
The event was attended by an official delegation from the Islamic Emirate, as well as several elders and scholars from the Afghan community residing in Ankara.
Muttaqi highlighted the upgrading of Kabul-Ankara relations from the chargé d’affaires level to full ambassadorial status after four years as a notable achievement. He emphasized that Afghanistan and Turkey currently enjoy “very strong and positive ties.”
The acting minister also pointed to the growing people-to-people and economic interactions between the two countries. He noted that a significant number of Turkish citizens apply for visas daily through Afghanistan’s embassy and consulates for purposes such as investment and tourism, underscoring Afghanistan’s increasing appeal as a destination for business and travel.
Muttaqi further acknowledged the vital role of the Afghan community in Turkey in strengthening cultural and social bonds between the two nations. He expressed appreciation for their efforts in preserving Afghan cultural identity while contributing to the enhancement of bilateral relations.
This development in Afghanistan-Turkey relations comes as part of the Islamic Emirate’s broader efforts to solidify its position in international diplomacy and expand ties with regional and global partners.
The normalization of relations with Turkey could serve as a model for other countries seeking to engage with Kabul, paving the way for further cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres. This milestone reflects a mutual commitment to fostering stability and collaboration, potentially opening new avenues for investment and regional partnerships.
