Iran-US Peace Agreement Finalized; Trump Orders Lifting of Naval Blockade

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced late Sunday night that a comprehensive peace agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States has been reached.

Kabul 24: The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Sharif stated: “After intense negotiations, we are pleased to announce that a peace agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been achieved.

Both sides have declared an immediate and permanent end to all military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon.”Sharif expressed gratitude to both Washington and Tehran for their commitment to a diplomatic solution and thanked the mediating efforts of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

He added that mediators will facilitate a series of preparatory meetings this week to pave the way for technical negotiations and the formal signing ceremony.U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the agreement on his Truth Social platform and announced the immediate lifting of the naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Trump wrote: “The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone. I am hereby issuing full authorization for the unrestricted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the United States naval blockade.”The agreement marks a significant de-escalation after months of heightened tensions and regional military confrontations. It is expected to end all active hostilities and open a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation — is anticipated to have a positive impact on international energy markets and contribute to regional economic stability.

Pakistan played a pivotal mediating role in bridging the positions of both sides. Sharif described the deal as a historic achievement that could lay the foundation for lasting peace in the Middle East.Iranian sources have emphasized the need for careful review of technical details, stating that final approval remains subject to full confirmation of all provisions.

Meanwhile, President Trump stressed that ships can now transit freely without restrictions, a move expected to quickly restore oil flows to global markets and ease economic pressures caused by the blockade.

While the agreement is viewed as a major step toward ending conflict, challenges remain, including the implementation of the ceasefire, technical monitoring mechanisms, and future negotiations on key issues such as Iran’s nuclear program.

The international community has welcomed the development with cautious optimism, hoping the formal signing in Switzerland will usher in greater stability across the region.
