UAE Suspends All Trade and Financial Transactions with Iran Amid Missile Allegations and Strait of Hormuz Disruptions

Following a sharp escalation in regional tensions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates announced the full suspension of all commercial and financial transactions with the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice.

Kabul 24: This unexpected move is framed by Abu Dhabi as a direct response to recent military developments and heightened instability across the Persian Gulf.

According to statements from the UAE Ministry of Defense, Iranian forces launched two ballistic missiles toward Emirati territory. Defense officials reported that one missile crashed outside UAE territorial waters, while the second landed within its maritime boundaries.

These allegations follow a period in which the UAE faced significant strain following the outbreak of conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Notably, Iran had refrained from targeting the UAE in operations following the signature of a recent memorandum of understanding.

Tehran, however, firmly denied any involvement in the reported launch. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dismissed Abu Dhabi’s statements as entirely baseless accusations.

Parallel to this diplomatic and military standoff, maritime operations in one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes face severe disruption. Latest global shipping tracking data indicates that vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to minimal levels on Tuesday.

Major maritime operators and shipowners are intentionally avoiding the passage due to the lack of clear signals regarding its safe reopening, creating further uncertainty for regional economic stability.
