Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation of the Islamic Emirate, met with Arafat Jamal, the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office, to discuss the ongoing issues facing Afghan refugees and explore effective solutions to address their condition.
Kabul 24: In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation reported that Arafat Jamal highlighted new international initiatives aimed at supporting Afghan refugees. He announced that during an international summit scheduled for October in Switzerland, the pressing challenges confronting Afghan refugees and the issue of forced deportations will be given special consideration.
The UNHCR representative also revealed that an agreement has been reached between the UNHCR and Iran to convene a regional tripartite meeting in Kabul in the near future. This summit will bring together delegates from Iran, the United Nations, and the Islamic Emirate to formulate practical, coordinated strategies for managing refugee issues.
Jamal emphasized that the UN has launched fresh efforts and strategic planning to mobilize necessary international financial resources and bolster aid delivery to displaced Afghans.
In response, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir described multilateral dialogues—particularly three- and four-party meetings—as vital and constructive mechanisms for achieving sustainable solutions. He reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s full support for all constructive initiatives in this realm, noting that the caretaker administration has already implemented various relief programs for returnees and refugees while paving the way for expanded international cooperation.
This meeting comes at a critical time when the deportation and return of Afghan refugees from neighboring nations have intensified, underscoring the imperative for heightened diplomatic coordination and humanitarian assistance.
