According to the human rights news agency HalVash, Abdulmanan Noorzahi, a 27-year-old Afghan man, was killed in a shooting by Iranian military forces.
Kabul 24: Noorzahi, originally from Farah province and a resident of Zahedan, Iran, was fatally shot near the border wall adjacent to Hirmand County. The incident also left another Afghan citizen wounded.
HalVash reported that Iranian forces opened direct fire on the two Afghan citizens behind the border wall without prior warning. Sources told HalVash that Noorzahi had been deported from Iran some time ago, but his family remained in Zahedan. He had obtained a passport and intended to re-enter Iran legally to reunite with his family and take them back to Afghanistan.
Tragically, he was shot and killed by Iranian forces while attempting to cross the border. His body was left abandoned in the sand behind the border wall and was discovered on Monday by passersby, who transferred it to Nimruz city.
The second Afghan citizen, whose identity and further details were not disclosed by HalVash, was injured in the leg during the shooting and is reportedly receiving medical attention. The lack of prior warning and the use of lethal force have raised concerns about the treatment of Afghan migrants and refugees at the Iranian border.
