Rohullah Nazari, a standout in the 83 kg category, was the star of the event. Last night, he defeated his Kyrgyz opponent with superior technique, clinching a bronze medal. Nazari then faced Iran’s representative for a spot in the final.
Despite a valiant effort, he fell short but proudly claimed the bronze, a testament to his skill and determination. The second bronze was earned by another Afghan kurash athlete, underscoring the team’s depth of talent.
These medals have positioned kurash as Afghanistan’s leading medal-winning sport in the Games so far.Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s taekwondo team, featuring Sedis Skandar and Abdul Basit Safi Zad, has begun intensive training in Bahrain.
Under expert coaching, the duo is preparing to face tough Asian opponents in the coming days. The taekwondo federation is optimistic about their chances, banking on their precision and endurance to add to the medal tally.
In martial arts, Ahmad Qayumi (70 kg) and Fayaz Ahmad Ibrahimi (75 kg) have also started rigorous training. With strategic preparation, these athletes are poised to make an impact, representing Afghanistan with grit and ambition.
The 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, which kicked off two days ago in Bahrain, hosts over 8,000 athletes from more than 40 Asian nations across 20+ sports. Afghanistan’s delegation is actively competing in kurash, taekwondo, martial arts, futsal, boxing, and jujitsu.
The kurash team’s success has ignited hope for further medals, boosting the morale of the entire contingent.
