According to the German outlet Die Zeit, Bashar al-Assad, the former Syrian president who sought asylum in Russia after the fall of his regime in Damascus, now resides with his family in the upscale Moscow-City district.
Kabul 24: Known for its modern skyscrapers and luxurious amenities, this area has become the new home for Assad and his entourage.
A source close to Assad’s circle told Die Zeit that the former leader spends much of his time immersed in online gaming, reflecting a significant shift from ruling a nation to a quieter, yet still affluent, life in exile.
The report states that Assad’s family owns nearly 20 apartments in the Moscow-City complex, with most located in the 76-story Moscow Tower within the “City of Capitals” development.
These towers, renowned for their striking architecture and high-end facilities, are among Moscow’s most expensive properties.
Die Zeit published images of the towers, asserting that the Assad family uses these apartments as their primary residence in Russia’s capital.
The source also revealed that Assad occasionally retreats to a villa outside Moscow but generally moves freely around the city, accompanied by security from a private firm.
Furthermore, the report indicates that approximately 1,200 Syrian officers who fled the former regime are currently residing in Russia. The wealthier among them have also settled in Moscow’s affluent neighborhoods, mirroring Assad’s lifestyle.
This account paints a picture of Assad and his associates enjoying a privileged existence in Russia, despite being far from the political power they once held.
Meanwhile, Syria continues to grapple with the aftermath of years of civil war and political upheaval, facing significant challenges in reconstruction and stability.
