The Afghan Embassy in Tehran confirmed that Amirtaha Rezaei, an 18-year-old Afghan, was recently killed in a horrific manner by two Iranian citizens.
Kabul 24: The incident, which has sparked grief and outrage among the Afghan migrant community in Iran, has once again highlighted the issue of migrants’ safety and the challenges they face.
Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, the acting head of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, met with the victim’s family on Saturday, 28 Saratan (July 20, 2025), to offer condolences and support.
According to the embassy’s statement, Haqqani emphasized that the brutal murder has been raised with the relevant authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, demanding swift action and punishment for the perpetrators of this “unforgivable crime” in accordance with the law. The embassy assured that it will closely follow the case to ensure justice is served.
Reports indicate that Amirtaha Rezaei’s body was discovered on Wednesday, 11 Saratan, in a garden in Absard, Damavand.
Morteza Maleki, the Damavand County Police Commander, stated that after the young man was reported missing, police launched an investigation and found his buried body.
Maleki added that the main perpetrator and their accomplice have been identified and arrested.
Amirtaha Rezaei, born and raised in Iran to Afghan parents, had left home to work with an excavator when he was killed, and his body was found days later.
His funeral took place on Wednesday, 25 Saratan, at Behesht-e Kotharwadan Cemetery in Damavand, where his family and loved ones mourned his loss.This tragedy underscores the urgent need to address the safety and rights of Afghan migrants in Iran.
The Afghan community, which has lived in Iran for decades, often faces social, economic, and legal challenges.
