Kabul 24: The visit coincides exactly with the arrival of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) in Washington, instantly sparking intense media speculation.
The American official declined to clarify whether Ronaldo’s presence is part of the high-level Saudi delegation or a separate engagement.
However, the timing is hardly coincidental. Since joining Al-Nassr in January 2023, the Portuguese superstar has become the most visible face of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 diversification plan, personally championed by MBS.
The crown prince has poured billions into sports, entertainment, and tourism to reduce the kingdom’s reliance on oil, and Ronaldo—captain of Al-Nassr, a club owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) chaired by MBS—has emerged as the ultimate symbol of that soft-power push.This will mark Ronaldo’s first trip to the United States in nearly nine years (since 2016).
