Ghani Warns: Deportation of Afghan Migrants from Iran Risks Humanitarian Catastrophe

Following the unprecedented deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, former President Ashraf Ghani warned of an impending “full-scale humanitarian disaster” in Afghanistan.

Kabul 24: In an audio message released on Thursday, Ghani stated that the heartbreaking scenes of the forced expulsion of Afghans from Iran have deeply wounded the hearts of all.

The former president emphasized that in such critical circumstances, it is imperative to speak with complete clarity and transparency about the gravity of the situation, as he believes, “If we remain silent, this escalating crisis will pave the way for a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe.”Ghani noted that Afghan deportees, unlike in neighboring countries, will enjoy “permanent rights” in their homeland, and “no power” can deprive them of these rights.

This comes at a time when the Taliban in Afghanistan has stripped citizens, particularly women and girls, of their fundamental freedoms and basic rights, including access to education and employment.
