As predicted, the Hamas movement responded to Trump’s plan with a “Yes, but…””Yes, but” is a kind of positive response accompanied by conditions, reservations, and other considerations.
Kabul 24: There are bright spots in Trump’s twenty-point plan that allow Hamas to be optimistic: Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza and its commitment not to annex it, abandoning the previous plan to displace its population, the release of hundreds of Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment, and a general, vague commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
On the other hand, Trump’s proposal contains clauses that directly target Hamas’s interests. Explicit references to its disarmament and the prevention of any Hamas presence in future governance arrangements are among these.
Beyond these, there are no shortage of ambiguous and gray areas in Trump’s plan. Issues that are open to conflicting and varied interpretations, such as the security buffer zone for Israel, which is inconceivable without occupying parts of Gaza, the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released, and the phased withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza.It can be imagined that, even with the initial agreement of the conflicting parties, negotiations over these issues could drag on for weeks or even months.The main dilemma is the prisoner exchange in the first three days following the ceasefire.
This means that Hamas would immediately lose a powerful leverage point.Will Israel remain committed to the rest of its obligations after the exchange?
That is not entirely clear!However, one thing is evident: the social and military resilience of Hamas and the Gaza Strip has almost reached its limit.
At the same time, Israel has nearly exhausted its political strength and diplomatic capacities, and the continuation of the war could lead to an existential crisis for it.
The stance of the international community is also significant. Apart from the United States, Israel has few remaining supporters, and European countries have openly distanced themselves from it.
Managing the positions of Arab and Islamic countries allied with the West has become increasingly difficult for the United States, and ending the Gaza war has turned into a global demand.
The dynamics of this situation have led to the reluctant, cautious positive responses from both Israel and Hamas.
