Nader Yarahmadi, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Center for Foreign Nationals and Migration Affairs, stated that Iran, like other countries worldwide, requires the presence of migrants with legal residency documents.
Kabul 24: He emphasized that legal migrants can play a significant role in the country’s economic, social, and cultural development.
Yarahmadi noted that the presence of documented migrants contributes to meeting labor market demands, fostering knowledge and skill exchange, and enhancing economic productivity. Yarahmadi highlighted that the establishment of the National Migration Organization is a critical step toward organizing the affairs of foreign nationals and migrants.
This organization, operating under the Ministry of Interior, aims to create transparent and legal frameworks to prevent irregular migration while enabling Iran to benefit from migrants’ capabilities within the bounds of the law. He stressed that this approach not only safeguards migrants’ rights but also protects Iran and its citizens from potential economic, social, and security challenges.
Referring to Iran’s long history of hosting migrants, particularly from neighboring countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, Yarahmadi noted that the National Migration Organization seeks to balance the rights of migrants with national interests.
By improving migration management, the organization aims to enhance security and order in this domain. He added that new policies will facilitate better planning to utilize migrants’ potential while addressing challenges associated with illegal migration. Yarahmadi expressed hope that these measures would position Iran as a regional model for migration management. He underscored that these efforts, while respecting migrants’ human dignity, will contribute to the country’s sustainable development
