Abdolhossein Khosrowpanah, head of Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, has criticized the country’s approach to managing Afghan migrants.
Kabul 24: He stated that accepting a large number of foreign nationals at one time and then abruptly expelling them due to security concerns reflects flawed governance in migration policy.
Khosrowpanah emphasized that such an approach not only fails to address existing issues but may also exacerbate social and security challenges.
He further noted that migration management requires meticulous planning, coherent policymaking, and consideration of humanitarian, cultural, and economic dimensions.
Accepting migrants without adequate infrastructure and then deporting them without weighing the consequences demonstrates a lack of long-term strategy, he argued.
Khosrowpanah proposed adopting a balanced policy that ensures national security while respecting migrants’ human rights, instead of resorting to hasty decisions.The head of the Supreme Council also stressed the need for collaboration among various institutions to develop a comprehensive migration policy.
Such a policy, he suggested, should include a thorough assessment of the country’s needs, available capacities, and the conditions of migrants. Drawing on global experiences in migration management, Khosrowpanah called for leveraging these models to improve the current situation in Iran.
In conclusion, he highlighted that with proper management, migrants could serve as a resource for the country’s economic and cultural development.
