The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, in its annual reporting session, criticized past neglect of urban standards and announced comprehensive plans to standardize cities across the country.
Kabul 24: The ministry is focusing on urban renewal and the resettlement of displaced persons and migrants, taking practical steps to address existing challenges.
According to officials, the first phase of the Qatar project in Kabul has been completed, the Nila Bagh project has achieved 35% progress, the second block of the housing preparation project is 80% complete, and work on the New Kabul project is ongoing.
Modar Ali Karimi Bamiyani, Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, stated, “We are overcoming numerous urban challenges through practical and technical approaches.”Mohammad Kamal Afghan, the ministry’s spokesperson, added, “In Helmand, we have started constructing a township for 400 needy families. In Farah, 108 houses, known as shelters, are under construction.
In Paktia, 100 houses are being built with the support of a charitable organization.
Similarly, in the Qataris’ project in Khushal Khan, Kabul, housing for 800 families is being provided, and land is being allocated to migrants.”Najibullah Haqqani, the acting Minister of Urban Development and Housing, criticized the inhumane expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, noting that the Islamic Emirate has managed to prevent a humanitarian crisis to some extent. He added, “To address the issues of returning migrants, the construction of 35 townships in 25 provinces has begun, and land is being distributed to over 87,000 families.” Haqqani urged neighboring countries to adhere to humane and Islamic principles in the deportation process.
Mohammad Arsalan Kharoti, Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration, stated, “Over the past year, 35 new townships have been designed for the permanent resettlement of migrants in 25 provinces, with some already under construction.” The ministry also reported preventing 3,800 unauthorized constructions in cities and designing plans for 300 buildings, reflecting its commitment to improving urban infrastructure and addressing housing challenges.
