Qatar Embassy in Kabul Hosts Key Roundtable on Afghanistan’s Relations with the Global Community

The Embassy of Qatar in Afghanistan has announced the successful holding of a high-level roundtable discussion on Afghanistan’s relations with the international community.

Kabul 24: The meeting brought together senior officials from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

According to the Qatari Embassy’s statement, the roundtable was hosted by Mordaf Al-Khashouti, Qatar’s Ambassador to Kabul. Participants from UNAMA included Georgette Gagnon, Head of the mission, and Scott Smith, Chief of the Political Affairs Section.

Representing the Islamic Emirate were Zakir Jalali, Deputy Director of Political Affairs, and Abdul Hai Qanit, Director of the Strategic Studies Center at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The closed-door roundtable provided an important platform for candid dialogue on the current state and future prospects of Afghanistan’s engagement with the global community.

Discussions focused on practical ways to strengthen ties, overcome existing challenges, and build constructive cooperation.Ambassador Al-Khashouti emphasized Qatar’s longstanding role as a facilitator and host of international dialogues on Afghanistan.

He expressed hope that such meetings would help foster mutual understanding and identify common ground between the Islamic Emirate and the international community.

UNAMA officials highlighted the importance of continued constructive engagement to address humanitarian, economic, and political issues facing Afghanistan.

They stressed the need for practical steps toward stability and development.On the Afghan side, Abdul Hai Qanit reiterated the Islamic Emirate’s desire for positive, respectful, and mutually beneficial relations with all countries and international organizations. He underlined Afghanistan’s readiness to cooperate on key areas including counter-terrorism, trade, sustainable development, and the safe return of refugees.

The meeting comes at a critical time as the international community continues to deliberate its policy toward Afghanistan. Issues such as human rights — particularly women’s and girls’ rights — counter-narcotics efforts, and the formation of an inclusive government remain central to global discussions.

This roundtable is seen as a positive step toward reducing Afghanistan’s political isolation and opening new channels of communication. Organizers believe that sustained dialogue of this nature is essential for regional stability and the well-being of the Afghan people.

Qatar has previously hosted several significant conferences on Afghanistan, including the Doha meetings, and continues to play an active role in bridging differences between stakeholders.
