The New York Times, citing two unnamed Middle Eastern officials, reported that the United States and Israel are engaged in the most extensive military preparations since the ceasefire took effect.

This week, the US Defense Secretary told lawmakers in Congress that the Pentagon is ready to shift military assets, escalate operations if necessary, or reduce and withdraw forces from the region.
Options under consideration include a heavy bombing campaign targeting Iranian military centers and infrastructure, as well as possible ground operations to recover enriched uranium stockpiles believed to be buried under the rubble of nuclear facilities destroyed during the 12-day war.
Meanwhile, a senior Israeli official told Channel 12 television that Israel is preparing for the “imminent” resumption of war with Iran. “The Americans now understand that negotiations with Iran are going nowhere,” the official said. He added: “We are preparing for days or weeks of fighting and are awaiting President Trump’s final decision.
We will have more information within the next 24 hours.”These speculations have intensified following President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Beijing and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which failed to produce any tangible results regarding the Iran conflict or the Hormuz Strait crisis.
Before the trip, Trump once again warned Iran that it must either reach an agreement with the United States or face “destruction.” He also described the current ceasefire as “extremely fragile.”In response, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, posted on X that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any “aggression.” He wrote: “Wrong strategies and wrong decisions will always lead to wrong results… We are ready for all options; they will be surprised.”The current ceasefire, established after intense clashes, now appears highly unstable.
Analysts warn that any decision by Trump could rapidly escalate tensions across the Middle East. The core issues — Iran’s nuclear program, regional security, and control of the Strait of Hormuz — remain unresolved, keeping the region on high alert.
