Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, to deliberate on regional developments, national infrastructure, and international economic engagement.
Kabul 24: The discussion focused primarily on evaluating current political and economic conditions in the region, reviewing recent progress in governance and national infrastructure, and exploring prospects for attracting foreign direct investment to Afghanistan.
According to an official press release issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, both parties assessed the existing framework for international enterprise participation across various economic sectors. During the meeting, Khalilzad noted that several prominent commercial entities from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan, and Norway have expressed strong interest in entering the Afghan market.
He highlighted that these international firms are particularly focused on strategic infrastructure and energy sectors, including oil and gas exploration, extraction, and resource development, which could play a pivotal role in strengthening the country’s energy independence.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar welcomed the interest shown by these foreign enterprises, reiterating the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to streamlining investment procedures. He emphasized that the government has implemented necessary administrative, legal, and security measures to facilitate foreign business operations.
Furthermore, he assured full institutional cooperation and support for prospective investors throughout project execution, aiming to accelerate economic recovery, generate local employment, and modernize national infrastructure.
