Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with Bjørn Hansen, Norway’s newly appointed Special Representative for Afghanistan.
Kabul 24: The two sides discussed political, regional, and bilateral cooperation matters.According to a statement released by the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Bjørn Hansen emphasized the historical relations between Norway and Afghanistan.
He noted that his country has always sought to play a constructive role in promoting stability and development in Afghanistan.Hansen highlighted noticeable progress made in Afghanistan in several key areas. “We have observed significant advancements in security, counter-narcotics efforts, and other sectors,” he said.
He stressed the importance of normalizing Afghanistan’s relations with the international community, saying this would pave the way for broader cooperation, especially in humanitarian, economic, and development fields.
Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Norway’s positive approach and constructive engagement with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
He pointed to the relative stability achieved across the country following recent developments and described it as a valuable opportunity for reconstruction, economic growth, and enhanced international partnerships.“Afghanistan has made tangible progress in various domains,” Muttaqi said.
“These achievements can serve as a solid foundation for expanding cooperation with friendly countries, including Norway.”
He emphasized the need to effectively utilize the current stability to advance joint projects and mutual interests.The meeting comes as the Islamic Emirate has intensified diplomatic efforts in recent months to engage constructively with Western and European nations.
Norway, known for its longstanding humanitarian and development activities in Afghanistan, is seen as a potential bridge between Kabul and the broader international community.
During the discussions, both sides also exchanged views on regional issues, shared challenges such as counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, and migration. They agreed to continue bilateral and multilateral dialogues to address common concerns.
