Since the start of the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, Afghanistan’s exports to Iran have increased dramatically.
kabul 24: The governor of Iran’s South Khorasan province told Iranian media that imports from Afghanistan have risen by approximately 850% in recent months, largely due to the proximity of Afghan goods to Iranian markets.
Seyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi, Governor of South Khorasan, stated: “Since the beginning of the war, imports from Afghanistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran have increased by 864 percent.”Mohammad Yousuf Amin, Executive Director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “Afghanistan’s exports to Iran have grown significantly.
We mainly export minerals, beverages, dried fruits, medicinal plants, and cotton to Iran.”A substantial portion of these exports originates from Herat’s industrial park.
The Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines believes the province has strong potential to further boost exports to Iran.Abdul Naser Amin, Head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, noted: “We have many products that can be exported to Iran. Iran previously imported many of its needs from China, but with routes now disrupted, the country can source some goods from Afghanistan instead.”Afghanistan and Iran are major trading partners, with a large share of Afghanistan’s market needs met by Iranian imports.
The sharp rise in Afghan exports to Iran is seen as a key step toward balancing trade between the two countries.Economic analyst Azizullah Samat commented: “With Iran facing import restrictions from other countries, a valuable opportunity has opened for Afghan exports.
Afghanistan should now establish clear laws, policies, and regulations to expand trade and export relations with neighboring countries and maximize these benefits.”Throughout the 40-day war between the US/Israel and Iran, the Afghanistan-Iran border remained open, with hundreds of cargo trucks crossing daily.Meanwhile, as border routes with Pakistan stay closed, a large volume of imported goods — especially raw materials for industrial factories — are now being sourced from Iran.
