Masoud Karimi: From Afghan Taekwondo Captain to International Referee at Nagoya 2026 Para Asian Games

Masoud Karimi, former captain of the Afghanistan National Taekwondo Team and an international referee, has been officially selected by World Taekwondo to officiate at the Nagoya 2026 Para Asian Games. His appointment follows his participation in World Taekwondo referee training seminars and his demonstrated performance across international events.

Kabul 24: Karimi is a seasoned figure in Afghan taekwondo, having served for years as a national athlete and team captain in major international competitions. Following his retirement from competitive fighting, he transitioned into officiating, applying his competitive experience to international refereeing.

Currently residing in Europe, Karimi secured a gold medal at the World Masters Games 2025 in Taiwan, adding a major title to his athletic record. His officiating credentials also include refereeing at international events such as the Poland Open Taekwondo Championships.

Selection for the Nagoya Para Asian Games marks a significant milestone in Karimi’s officiating career, strengthening his position among World Taekwondo’s international referees.
