Mujahid: U.S. Should Reopen Its Embassy in Kabul Instead of Focusing on Bagram

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, told Tolo News that Afghanistan desires positive relations with all countries, including the United States, focusing solely on economic and diplomatic ties.

Kabul 24: He stated, “We advocate for good relations with all nations, including the U.S. Our relations should be based on diplomacy and trade.

We have maintained contact in these areas and encouraged the U.S. to engage in such cooperation.”Mujahid’s remarks come in response to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about the Bagram Airbase.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. to reopen its embassy in Kabul instead of focusing on the airbase. He said, “The U.S. sometimes mentions Bagram or other issues.

We have told them to activate their embassy in Kabul instead of Bagram, fostering legitimate and proper relations between Afghanistan and the U.S. through this diplomatic channel.” Mujahid noted that discussions on this matter are ongoing, and the Islamic Emirate awaits the U.S. response.

This push for economic and diplomatic relations follows statements from the U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor, who acknowledged that Afghanistan’s current leadership has shown partial cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

The Islamic Emirate’s emphasis on diplomacy and trade reflects its intent to build formal and stable ties with the international community, particularly the U.S. However, the reopening of the U.S. embassy in Kabul and Washington’s response to this proposal could be pivotal in shaping future bilateral relations.

The Islamic Emirate has signaled readiness for dialogue and cooperation based on mutual interests, while awaiting concrete steps from the U.S.
