Following a devastating 6.3-magnitude earthquake near Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan, which claimed at least 20 lives and injured over 600 people, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar expressed their condolences and support for the Afghan people.
Kabul 24: In a statement, Shehbaz Sharif said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives of our Afghan neighbors due to the earthquake in northern Afghanistan.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the swift recovery of the injured.
Pakistan stands with our Afghan brothers and sisters in this difficult moment.” His message underscores Pakistan’s solidarity with Afghanistan during this tragedy.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jaishankar, in a phone call with his Afghan counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi, conveyed condolences for the earthquake’s toll.
He confirmed that India has delivered 15 tons of humanitarian aid, including food supplies, to the Islamic Emirate, with additional assistance, such as medicines and more food, to follow soon.
Muttaqi expressed gratitude for India’s support and emphasized the timely delivery of aid to those in need.
The two ministers also discussed strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration following Muttaqi’s recent visit to India.The earthquake has caused significant damage in northern Afghanistan, heightening the need for urgent humanitarian aid.
The condolences and assistance from neighboring countries like Pakistan and India reflect regional solidarity in the face of this disaster. India’s aid and Pakistan’s moral support are expected to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities and foster stronger diplomatic ties in the region.
