TEHRAN — An Afghan family residing in Iran has claimed that their young son was viciously beaten and burned with hot oil by an Iranian family following a heated dispute.
Kabul 24: The allegation, raised in posts on the X platform on July 16, 2025, adds to growing concerns about mistreatment of Afghan migrants in Iran.
The family reported the incident to authorities, but claims no action has been taken. The boy’s mother recounted the horrific event: “I heard shouts outside our home. Rushing out, I saw a man attacking my younger son. When my older son stepped in to protect him, they dragged him inside. One of them grabbed his throat and shoved him toward a pot of boiling oil.
The oil splashed across his face and body, causing severe burns. Even then, they kept beating him before walking away.”She added, “We’re living in constant fear and humiliation. We’re mocked and threatened daily. I’m too scared to leave the house or let my children play outside.
For two nights, we hid in someone else’s home for safety.” The family says they’ve faced further intimidation since the incident and have little hope for justice.Iran hosts approximately 5 million Afghan migrants, many fleeing conflict and instability. However, stricter policies, including mass deportations, have heightened tensions.
A 2025 UNICEF report notes that up to 30,000 Afghans, including 25% children, are deported daily. Reports of restrictions, such as bans on selling bread to migrants in some areas, have also emerged.
This incident has sparked outrage among Afghan communities in Iran, amplifying fears of rising anti-immigrant sentiment. As of this report, Iranian authorities have not commented, and the Afghan Embassy in Tehran has not responded to inquiries. The allegations urgently require a transparent investigation by officials to establish the truth
