The Prison Administration Authority reports that since the Islamic Emirate came to power in Afghanistan, a total of 1,900 Afghan citizens have been transferred from Iranian prisons to prisons in Afghanistan.
Kabul 24: The spokesperson for the authority added that some of these prisoners have been released after completing their sentences.
Mohammad Nasim Lalahand, spokesperson for the Prison Administration Authority, said: “Among them, some who were transferred to Afghanistan in previous years completed their sentences in the prisons of the Prison Administration Authority and were released, while others are still serving their remaining sentences in these facilities.”
Legal experts emphasize that after the transfer of these prisoners, their cases must be thoroughly and comprehensively re-examined to ensure their legal rights are upheld and to prevent future legal complications.
Rohullah Sakhizada, a legal expert, told TOLOnews: “What is very important is that the Islamic Emirate must pay serious attention to reviewing their case files.
If there were any shortcomings in the past regarding investigation or access to defense lawyers that were not considered, these issues should be carefully addressed.”Mohammad Jamal Muslim, a migrant rights activist, said: “Trials should be conducted under the supervision of authorities that uphold migration laws, and it should be determined whether these individuals are repeat offenders or were suspected due to lack of awareness of the host country’s laws.”The repatriation of Afghan prisoners from Iran to Afghanistan is a process that provides an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations and legal cooperation between the two countries.
In the most recent case, just two days ago, 292 Afghan citizens convicted and imprisoned were transferred from Iranian prisons to prisons in Afghanistan.
