Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), announced that a consultative meeting of the organization’s member states is scheduled for September 11-12, 2025, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Kabul 24: The meeting will bring together representatives from SCO member countries, including China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and other partners, to discuss pressing regional and international issues.
According to Yermekbayev, a key focus of the summit will be a comprehensive exchange of views on the current situation in Afghanistan and its impact on regional stability and security.
Afghanistan remains a critical concern for the region due to its ongoing political instability, economic challenges, and the persistent threats of terrorism and drug trafficking, particularly following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021.
These issues have had a significant spillover effect on neighboring countries and the broader region.
The SCO, as a pivotal regional organization, plays a crucial role in fostering coordinated policies and joint actions to address these challenges.
The Dushanbe meeting is expected to include in-depth discussions on the evolving situation in Afghanistan, assessing potential threats, and exploring collaborative strategies to mitigate the negative consequences of the country’s instability.
Yermekbayev emphasized that the consultative summit will also serve as a platform to enhance multilateral cooperation in security, economic, and cultural domains.

Additionally, topics such as regional infrastructure development, trade, and investment may be addressed on the sidelines of the meeting.
